The fact that the Red Team ended their season winning 3 out of their last 4 games, combined with the White Team playing neck and neck with the powerhouse New Trier Blue team, is cause for optimism, and it bodes well for the coming Fall season. Unfortunately, the Pocket Rocket's goal wasn't enough, and New Trier eked out a shootout win, scoring on 2 of their 5 chances. The atmosphere in Vernon Hills was tense when the game went into a shootout, and things looked promising when Noah Pockross lit the lamp after putting a nice move on the New Trier netminder. Brody Siegel and Alex McManamna assisted on McKinley's first goal, and Big Brandon Brown and Miles Goldman got the helpers on the second one.
Regulation ended in a 2-2 deadlock, thanks to a pair of goals by rising star, McKinley Houston. While the Red Team had things well in hand in Wilmette, things were a bit more dicey 20 miles to the north, where the White Team came within inches of defeating New Trier's JV Blue team, at Glacier. Sam Shapiro closed out the scoring a few minutes later on a nice feed from Aaron Rubin, sealing the 5-2 victory for Deerfield. In the 3rd, Miles fed Dustin for another Warrior goal, making it a 3-point night for each player. Whitey buried it to reclaim the 2-goal lead, and that was how the period ended. Deerfield had good puck possession on the powerplay, and when Miles was able to elude his man in front, Corrigan's pass was spot on.
New Trier managed to cut the lead in half early in the 2nd, but the Warriors came charging back after New Trier took an ill-advised penalty. Later in the 1st period, Dustin fed Tyler Corrigan, who worked a nice give-'n-go with Miles White, before tallying the game's second goal. The stretch pass connected, and Dustin cruised in and scored on the ensuing breakaway. The Red Team ended the Spring season with a bang Monday night, defeating New Trier White on Trevian ice, and finishing the season with an impressive 7-5-1 record.ĭHS got things going 4 minutes into the game, when Reed Wolf, from the defensive zone, spotted Dustin Zimberoff streaking through the neutral zone.
